The State Capitol Building - Built between 1814 and 1816, the Old State Capitol is a 40 ft. square , two-story, cube-shaped building made of rough blue Indiana limestone.  It cost $3000 to build, which was six times the usual amount spent on public buildings during that time.  The walls are between 24 and 30 inches thick with a layer of sand for insulation.

The House of Representatives met in the lower room, and the Senate Chamber and the Supreme Court met upstairs.  When the legislature was not in session, the County and District courts used the building.  The capitol was moved to Indianapolis in 1825.
