Dry Goods - Material, thread, buttons, and other things used to make clothes.

Philanthropist - A person who provides good things for people who are in need of food, clothing, housing, education, and other necessary things.

Victorian - A highly ornamented style of furniture and buildings that became popular during the reign of Queen Victoria of England.

Conservatory - A place to grow plants.

Library - A room where books are kept. Also used as a den or a study.

Verandah - A porch.

Cornice - A decoration around the edge of a ceiling.

Parquet - Small pieces of wood fitted together to make a floor.

Dumb Waiter - A small elevator used to bring food and dishes from one floor to another. People do not ride in it.

Cantilever Staircase - A staircase held up from the wall, on one side only.

Marble - A hard stone that can be used to make statues and tops of furniture.

Sheffield - Copper covered with a coating of silver.

Sterling - Pure silver.

Gold Leaf- Paper thin sheets of gold that are put on wood or paper to make a shiny gold finish.

Water Closet - A toilet that was used before there were flush toilets and indoor plumbing.

Chamber Pot- A container that was used as a toilet in the bedroom.

Servant - A person hired by others to do housework.

Original - The way it was when it was first built or made.

Restore - Bring back to the way it was originally.
