AQUATICS: All aquatics courses are held in the USI Physical Activity Center (PAC) pool and are taught by the USI Aquatics Staff under the direction of Cathy Hesse.
LOCKERS:
Locker space is available during class time at no charge to participants who provide their own locks. If you are interested in locker rental and towel service call the PAC Control Counter at 812/464-1945.
PLEASE NOTE:
All registrants for fitness courses are reminded that it is always wise to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.

PRESCHOOL SWIMMING (Ages 3–5)
 Water safety and water adjustment are emphasized in this program, along with development of gross motor skills. Parents are invited to get in the water with their children after discussion with the chief instructor.

SWIMMING FOR BOYS AND GIRLS (Ages 6–14)

Children ages 6–14 will have an opportunity to develop a wide variety of aquatic skills as well as fundamental strokes and to receive American Red Cross water safety certification in one of the following areas: Water Exploration, Primary Skills, Stroke Readiness, Stroke Development, Stroke Refinement, and Skill Proficiency.

WATER AEROBICS     
Research says one half-hour of water walking equals two hours of land walking without the stress on the body. High-intensity but low-impact water exercises will be used to raise your heart rate and improve your cardiovascular condition. Swimming skills are not required.

DEEP WATER FITNESS CLASS
Build muscle, improve flexibility, and increase cardiovascular endurance by using the resistance of the water without the impact found in land exercise. Exercising in deep water is a heart-healthy workout option that is challenging, fun, and great for cross-training. Class requires no swimming skill and Aqua Joggers (buoyancy belts) are available.

OFFICIATING BASKETBALL          NO. FIT400
A thorough interpretation of the rules and officiating techniques of basketball designed for potential officials, fans, and coaching staffs.  Topics include equipment, officials and their duties, scoring and timing regulations, violations, fouls, and penalties.  There is a $35 testing fee for those who want to take the IHSAA licensing exam; all others will pay a $5 book fee to IHSAA.  Please bring a check, payable to IHSAA, for the exam/book fee to the first class session.  May be taken for one hour credit as PED 237.  Contact Jane Davis-Brezette, Physical Education Department Chair, at 464-1821 before registering for credit.

INTRODUCTION TO ROCK CLIMBING  
Learn the exciting and exhilarating sport of rock climbing. Participants will learn basic climbing skills, proper anchor building techniques, gear placement, and rope systems.  May be taken for one hour credit as PED199, Introduction to Rock Climbing.  Contact Jane Davis-Brezette, Physical Education Department Chair, at 464-1821 before registering for credit.

LEARN TO SCUBA DIVE  
Students will gain entry-level scuba-diving knowledge and skills. Topics include: scuba diving equipment, physics of diving, medical problems related to diving, use of dive tables and/or dive computers, dive environment, dive planning, communications, diver assistance, recommended diving practices, procedures for diving from boats and use of the diving log book. Scuba skills development occurs in pool. Students must have basic swimming skills. May be taken for one hour credit as PED145. SAILING SCHOOL
Spend an exciting weekend in intensive instruction, both on shore and in sailboats, at Kentucky Lake. For beginners or experienced sailors. Meals and lodging not included in registration fee. Enrollment limited. May be taken for one-hour credit as EDUC 163, Beginning Sailing. Call 812/464–1989 for a detailed brochure. Dates and details for the fall course will be available in April.

WABASH HERITAGE PADDLEFEST
A trip down any other river in the state will not give as complete a view of Indiana as the historic Wabash River.  Enjoy the scenery as you paddle you canoe 9.7 miles from Grayville, Illinois to historic New Harmony, Indiana.  Call 812/464-1989 for detailed information and registration.

ONLINE ADULT CPR/AED CHALLENGE COURSE    NO.FIT500
If you need to be certified or recertified in adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and use of automatic external defibrillators (CPR/AED), sign up for this self-study course. You will receive an access number for using USI’s Blackboard system to take the written exam (at your convenience, but must be completed one week prior to the Practical Exam). The practical exam will be given at USI on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Physical Activities Center. Course materials may be purchased at the the Evansville American Red Cross (29 S. Stockwell Road). They are First Aid/CPR/AED for the Workplace and the Adult CPR/AED Skills Card. DISCOVERING THE VERTICAL WORLD ROCK CLIMBING TRIP        NO.FIT451
This is a two-day trip designed to introduce new climbers to the vertical world in a safe and structured manner. The first day will cover equipment and proper use, anchor building, and top rope climbing. The second day will focus on expanding top rope climbing skills. In addition to climbing, participants will be introduced to basic rappelling techniques and backpacking basics, such as site selection, food prep, and Leave No Traces ethics. Heights experienced during this vertical exploration will range from 40’ to 100’ on quality sandstone or limestone. There is a mandatory information meeting on Thursday, June 5 from 6–7 p.m. Weekend overnight: camping supplies and transportation provided.

ADVENTURES ON WATER CANOEING TRIP              NO.FIT452
This is a weekend trip designed for beginner through intermediate paddle enthusiasts. The first day will cover paddle strokes, control techniques, basic water safety, and a twelve-mile float trip. After overnight primitive camping, participants will fine tune their skills on a six-mile float trip. There is a mandatory informational meeting on Thursday, June 26, from 6–7 p.m. Weekend overnight: camping supplies and transportation provided.
