he following are the course descriptions for elective courses offered through the Military Science Department.  These courses, along with the credit hours earned, are necessary in order to fulfill the requirements for a Minor in Military Science.

MS 241 - U.S. Military History I (1740-1900) (3): The course will focus on U.S. military activity from the French and Indian War through the Spanish American War. Emphasis is on issues in command, impacts of technology, and the evolution of strategy and tactics in modern warfare. Students will conduct a battle analysis using a variety of techniques. Fall.

MS 242 - U.S. Military History II (1900-Present) (3): The course will focus on U.S. military activity from before WWI through the Global War on Terrorism as well as highlighted concepts in contemporary peacekeeping operations. Emphasis is on issues in command, impacts of technology, and the evolution of strategy and tactics in modern warfare. Students will conduct a battle analysis using a variety of techniques. Spring.

MS 299 - Special Topics in Military Science (1-3): The course will present a specific and relevant topic for study and discussion. Actual course topics vary with each instructor and term. Past topics have included Mass Media and the Military, and a case study in Mounted Warfare to include the history of cavalry and armor. Spring.

MS 499 - Military Science Independent Study (1-4): An opportunity to investigate a topic of particular interest to the student under the supervision of a faculty member. Requires extensive reading, research, analysis, and writing. Fall and Spring.
