For many types of aid, part-time enrollment is permitted and the aid may be adjusted to reflect less than full-time enrollment. For some types of aid, full-time enrollment is required. An example is the Twenty-First Century Scholars award. For other types of aid, at least half-time enrollment is required. An example is the Stafford Loan. Most institutional scholarships require full-time attendance and full-time is defined differently than it is for federal and state financial aid.
| Status | Undergraduate Minimums | Graduate Minimums |
| Full Time | 12 semester hours | 8 semester hours |
| 3/4 Time | 9 semester hours | |
| 1/2 Time | 6 semester hours | 4 semester hours |
