Students who are first-time borrowers of Federal Direct Loans are required to complete entrance counseling before their loan proceeds can be released: Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
Be sure and select Entrance Counseling and not Financial Awareness Counseling.
If you don't think you should be required to complete entrance counseling, read the report, "Big Loans, Bigger Problems." Published by the State Public Interest Research Group's (PIRG) Higher Education Project, it is described as a "report on the sticker shock of student loans." It should convince you of the need for loan counseling!
Please complete your counseling requirements by
clicking on the link below. You must identify yourself on the Direct
Loan web site using either your Social Security number or your federal PIN. If you
prefer to use your PIN but don't remember
it, go to PIN Registration to request a duplicate PIN. Keep your PIN in a safe place for future use.
If you have any questions as you complete your session, you may contact your student financial assistance counselor at 812/464-1767 or 800/467-1965. You may also email questions to us.
