American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division Foundation’s College Scholarship Program

Since 1999, the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division Foundation has proudly supported young cancer survivors with scholarships as they pursue ambitious career goals. To date, nearly 350 first-time scholarships and approximately 300 renewal scholarships have been awarded to students in the Great Lakes area. Scholarships may be renewable up to three additional years, and are available annually, based on academic performance, and community service and leadership, among other criteria.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be a cancer survivor age 20 or under (as of April 17, 2007)

·         Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Indiana or Michigan

·         Applicant must be attending, or planning to attend, an accredited college or university in Indiana or Michigan in Fall 2007

Applications are not yet available for 2008-2009

Army Emergency Relief Spouse and Children Scholarship Program

It is Army Emergency Relief’s (AER) objective to ensure all Army families, active, retired and survivor, are made aware of the scholarship opportunities available for the spouse and dependent children of Soldiers.

Major General James Ursano Scholarship Fund for Dependent Children – Eligible applicants must be dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children of Army Soldiers on active duty, retired or deceased while in active duty or retired status. The children of Grey Area Reservists/National Guard are eligible as retired members.

Overseas Spouse Education Assistance Program – An Eligible applicant must be a spouse of a Soldier on active duty assigned in Europe, Korea, Japan or Okinawa. The applicant must physically reside with Soldier at the assigned location. This award is only available for students who are working toward their first undergraduate degree.

Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program – An Eligible applicant must be a spouse of an active or retired Army Soldier or the applicant must be a widow(er) of an active or retired Army Soldier. The applicant must live in the United States. Stateside applicants must be full time students working toward their first undergraduate degree.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

Each year at its national convention in July, the National Federation of the Blind gives a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars.

Amount: $3,000- $12,000

Eligibility:

·         Applicants must be legally blind

·         Applicants must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, postsecondary course of study in a degree program at a United States institution

·         Some scholarships are restricted by gender or field of study

USI/Epi-Hab Center for Disability Studies annually awards one student from each of the five schools as well as one from University Division/General Studies.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of three semester hours at the University of Southern Indiana (USI) at the time of application and award (spring semester)

·         Applicant must have completed at USI, or have accepted for transfer to USI, a minimum of 12 semester hours

·         Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (undergraduates) or 3.0 (graduates) on all USI courses
