Scholarships for Students Pursuing Degrees in Nursing and Health Professions


 

Army Nurse Candidate Program Scholarship

Army Nurse Candidate Program Scholarship (ANCP) offers a $10,000 bonus: $5,000 upon acceptance of enrollment documents and $5,000 at start of senior year for students in the program for two years or upon graduation for students in the program for one year. A monthly stipend of $1,000: Must be enrolled as a full-time student to receive the stipend. (This includes the summer months.) This is not a ROTC program, so you will not have to be enrolled in any ROTC classes.

 

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be a junior or senior nursing student

·         Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited BSN program

·         Applicant must possess a minimum 3.2 GPA (waiverable)

·         Applicant must be a U.S. citizen

·         Applicant must meet the moral and physical qualifications to become an Army Officer

Evansville North Civitan Club - Kent M. Sunderman Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Kent M. Sunderman Scholarship is tailored to fit the needs of students working to complete the Junior/Senior undergraduate work in the university. Applicants are required to be planning a career in Human Services, which would include the fields of education, social work, and medical related fields, etc.

Amount: Up to $1,500, depending upon student need and funds available.

Eligibility:

 

·         Academic record of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, professional objectives, and financial needs are the basis for grants

·         Community and or civic involvement will be looked upon favorably

·         Applicant must be attending a 4-year college in Vanderburgh County or be a resident of Vanderburgh County, attending a 4-year accredited college

F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship

The Army offers the HPSP for pursuit of professional degrees which enable the recipient to become a physician, dentist, veterinarian, optometrist, clinical or counseling psychologist, or nurse anesthetist.

Amount: For those who qualify, a full-tuition scholarship and monthly allowance is provided.

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be a citizen of the United States

·         Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college of veterinary medicine program in the United States

·         Applicant must meet eligibility criteria for appointment as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve

·         Applicant must maintain full-time student status during the entire length of the program

Hispanic Dental Association Foundation

The Hispanic Dental Association (HAD) Foundation Scholarships are offered to support promising Hispanic students in their academic training and community service requirements. The awarding of these scholarships will obligate the grantees to complete the current year of their dental or dental hygiene program.

GlaxoSmithKline Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must have completed one year of dental school or a dental hygiene program in the U.S.

·         Applicant must be of Hispanic origin (at least one parent of Hispanic descent)

·         Applicant must be a full-time student during the academic year for which he/she is applying

·         Applicant must show evidence of commitment and dedication to serve the Hispanic community

Procter & Gamble and HAD Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $500 and $1,000

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be accepted as a full-time, entry-level student in a dental program, undergraduate dental hygiene program, dental assisting program, or dental technician program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, during the academic year for which he/she is applying

·         Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

·         Applicant must be of Hispanic origin (at least one parent of Hispanic descent)

·         Applicant must show evidence of community service, leadership, and/or extracurricular activities

Indiana Health Care Foundation

The Indiana Health Care Foundation (IHCF) is a charitable organization designed to support the long-term care profession through education and research.

Amount: $750 - $1,500

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must reside in the State of Indiana

·         Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED

·         Applicant must be accepted to an LPN or RN accredited degree program

·         Applicant must attend an in-state (or border state) post-secondary school, such as a University or Technical College

·         Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

·         Applicant must return completed application with school transcripts, three letters of recommendation and essay to IHCF by the May 1 deadline

·         Applicant must agree to a personal interview at the IHCF offices in Indianapolis when contacted by IHCF

·         Consideration will be given to individuals who show a dedication and commitment to working with the elderly in a long-term care environment

·         Individuals related to a member of the IHCF Board of Directors are ineligible

Applications for 2008-2009 will be available in February.

La Porte Hospital Foundation

Since 1982, La Porte Regional Health System, the La Porte Hospital Foundation, and the La Porte Hospital auxiliary have sponsored scholarships to provide financial assistance to students pursuing careers in health science occupations. Through these scholarships, area students are encouraged to consider health careers as they plan their future goals.

Applications are not yet available for 2008-2009.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution awards the following scholarships through the DAR Scholarship Committee.

 

Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship – A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is enrolled in the Nursing Program must be included with the application.

Deadline: February 15, 2008

 

Madeline Pickett Halbert Cogswell Nursing Scholarship – A one-time $500 scholarship for students who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, which are members of NSDAR, descendants of members of NSDAR or are eligible to be members of NSDAR. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be included with the application. DAR Member Number must be on the application.

Deadline: February 15, 2008

 

Mildred Nutting Scholarship – A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be enclosed with the application. Preference will be given to candidates from the Lowell, MA area.

Deadline: February 15, 2008

 

Occupational Therapy Scholarship – A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are attending an accredited school of Occupational Therapy including art, music or physical therapy. A letter of acceptance into the Occupational Therapy Program or the transcript stating the applicant is in the Occupational Therapy Program must be included with the application.

Deadline: February 15, 2008

General Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be a citizen of the U.S.

·         Applicant must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S.

·         Applicant must obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR Chapter

·         Scholarships are awarded regardless of race, religion, sex or national origin

Peeples Foundation Scholarship

The Marion A. Peeples and Eva S. Peeples Foundation Trust Fund provides for the awarding of annual scholarships to graduates of Indiana high schools who will attend an Indiana college or university and will major in Nursing, Dietetics, or is interested in teaching in the field of Industrial Arts.

Amount: $500 - $4,000 per academic year and amounts are determined by the scholarship committee. Scholarships are granted for one year, but could continue for up to 8 semesters at the discretion of the committee.

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be an Indiana high school graduate, enrolled or enrolling in one of the three areas mentioned above.

·         Scholarships will be awarded based on GPA, SAT, academic preparation and performance, recommendations, financial need, and a personal interview.

·         In awarding the scholarships, preference is given to graduates of Franklin Community High School and other Johnson County high schools, respectively.

Undergraduate Nursing Education Scholarships

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association's first Executive Director. Organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, FNSNA awards scholarships to qualified nursing students annually.

Amount: Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Eligibility:

·         Current enrollment and matriculation in a state approved nursing program leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate or generic master’s degree, or enrolled in a RN to BSN, RN to MSN, or LPN/LVN to RN program

·         Pre-nursing students taking courses to prepare for matriculation into a nursing program

·         Attending classes and taking no less than six (6) credits per semester

·         Involvement in student nursing organizations and/or community health activities

·         Document academic achievement

·         Establish financial need

·         US citizen or Alien with US Permanent Resident Status/Alien Registration Number

·         High school students are not eligible to apply

Deadline: Applications must be received by January 11, 2008. Students are strongly encouraged to complete and submit their application to the FNSNA before the end of December 2007.

Scholarships for Nursing Students:

The Wanita I. & Ernest E. Hinshaw Nursing Education Fund – This scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student. Those eligible include nurses studying for graduate degrees such as Family Nurse Practitioner.

The Gertrude and Ralph Horton Grants-in-Aid for Nursing Education

The Gladys N. Marvel, R.N. and Cecil B. Marvel Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Scholarships for Health Careers: (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Repertory Therapy, Radiology Tech, and Speech Therapy)

The John C. Figg and Jennie Figg Health Careers Scholarship

The Eleanor N. Royse Health Careers Scholarship

The Century Club Health Careers Scholarship

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited health care degree program at a college or university

·         Applicant must have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, if the applicant has completed one or more semesters of study at a college or university

·         Applicant must demonstrate financial need

·         Applicants from the Wabash Valley will be given first consideration for these scholarships

·         Applicants not attending for a full academic year need not apply
