American Chemical Society Scholars Program The American Chemical Society, the largest membership organization devoted to the study and advancement of a single science, sponsors a scholarship program for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials science or toxicology. The program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) was established in 1978 by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus as a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Latino leaders. This premier scholarship opportunity is afforded to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who plan to continue contributing in the future. Hispanic College Fund Last year the Hispanic College Fund awarded $2.4 million to over 600 students nationwide. HCF Scholars not only benefit from funding, but also from joining a powerful network of HCF Scholars, corporate executives and government leaders vested in developing the next generation of Hispanic professionals. HCF Scholars include some of the nation's top college students studying business, finance, engineering and the sciences. Through the HCF network, students have started careers at companies like Lockheed Martin, Estee Lauder Companies and Sallie Mae. Hispanic Dental Association Foundation The Hispanic Dental Association (HAD) Foundation Scholarships are offered to support promising Hispanic students in their academic training and community service requirements. The awarding of these scholarships will obligate the grantees to complete the current year of their dental or dental hygiene program. Hispanic Scholarship Fund The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. HSF was founded in 1975 with a vision of strengthening the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans-the largest minority segment of the U.S. population. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund has five different scholarship programs to choose from. Successful candidates are selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, personal strengths, and leadership. Indiana Black Expo Scholarships The Indiana Black Expo, Inc (IBE) Scholarship Program is designed to encourage the pursuit of higher education for Indiana residents. The Scholarships are funded by proceeds from the Coca-Cola Circle City Classic Football Game and are payable upon recipient’s full-time enrollment in a post-secondary institution. Eligibility: ˇ High school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students ˇ Applicant must be accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution that meets the federal default guidelines for the guaranteed student loan program ˇ Applicant must have at least a grade point average of at least 2.0 (“C” average) or its equivalent ˇ Family members of the IBE Board of Directors and staff are not eligible to receive IBE Scholarships ˇ Applicants must submit required documents and letters of reference from knowledgeable persons attesting to the applicant’s personal achievements, talent, and potential Deadline: April 15, 2008 Contact: Applications are available in USI’s Student Financial Assistance Office or online at www.indianablackexpo.com. Minorities in Goverment Finance The Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is available for award to an upper-division undergraduate or graduate student of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management). This GFOA Scholarship is funded by Microsoft. The purpose of the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is to recognize outstanding performance by minority students preparing for careers in state and local government finance. Amount: $5,000 Eligibility: ˇ Applicant must currently be a full-time or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management) ˇ Applicant must belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino ˇ Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada ˇ Applicant must have a recommendation by his/her academic advisor, department chair (undergraduate students), or dean of the graduate program (graduate students) ˇ Applicant must not be a past winner of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada Deadline: Postmarked no later than February 29, 2008 Contact: Applications are available in USI’s Office of Student Financial Assistance or online at http://www.gfoa.org/services/scholarships.shtml. National Italian American Foundation Scholarships The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has an education budget of $1,000,000. The NIAF will award scholarships and grants to outstanding students in the summer of 2007 for use during the following academic year. The awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and divided between two groups of students. General Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open. General Category II: Those students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Eligibility: ˇ Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education for the Fall 2008 ˇ Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 ˇ Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien ˇ Applicant must fit into one of the NIAF scholarship categories mentioned above ˇ For the purposes of the NIAF Scholarship Program, to be “Italian American” the student must have at least one ancestor who has immigrated from Italy Deadline: March 6, 2008 Contact: Applications and additional information may be found online at www.niaf.org. The Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship Programs The Sallie Mae Fund will award over $2 million to college-bound students across the nation. American Dream Scholarship: The American Dream program was developed in partnership with the United Negro College Fund and offers scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to African-American students with demonstrated financial need. Eligibility: ˇ Applicant must be an U.S. citizen or permanent resident ˇ Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) ˇ Applicant must meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria ˇ Applicant must be enrolled full-time at an approved, accredited, undergraduate institution Deadline: April 15, 2008 Contact: Applications may be completed online at www.uncf.org. ******** First in My FamilyŽ Scholarship: This program, developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college and have financial need.
