Special Services

Loan and Debt Counseling
Stafford Loan borrowers are required to complete loan entrance counseling as new borrowers. Exit counseling is required when they graduate, drop below half-time enrollment for more than 15 weeks, transfer to another college, or simply stop out of college for a semester or more. Loan counseling can be completed on this Web site. If you have problems with the process, contact the Student Financial Assistance Office for assistance.

Certification for Public Assistance, Housing Assistance, and Vocational Rehabilitation
Various agencies require the University to certify students' financial aid eligibility and cost of attendance. Students generally must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the USI Financial Aid Data Form at least four weeks before the agency certification is required. Please submit agency forms to our office directly in person or by mail. For completed financial aid application files, forms will be returned to the agency within three working days. Otherwise, forms will be held until the financial aid application file is complete.

Certification of Scholarship/Grant Applications
Outside scholarship/grant agencies require the University to certify students' financial aid eligibility and cost of attendance.

Test Fee Waiver Certification
Student Financial Assistance certifies eligibility for fee waivers for certain standardized tests. These include the GRE, PRAXIS, and MSAT. Applicants must provide to the Student Financial Assistance Office the appropriate form from the test application booklet and the form must be completed in pen. Determination of eligibility will be made on the same day the form is submitted to the office. Students must pick up the form to submit the form to the test center. Student Financial Assistance cannot take responsibility for submitting the form to the test center.
