The study of language acquaints students with cultures other than their own, deepens their understanding of their own culture and prepares them for graduate study and many internationally-based careers.
The University of Southern Indiana offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and minor study options in French, German and Spanish, with the additional options of teacher certification and a concentration in Language and International Trade. Chinese, Arabic and Latin instruction is offered through the intermediate level, and Japanese coursework is offered through the advanced level. Students may qualify for a higher level language course through USI placement examinations.
Language Learning Abroad
USI exchange programs and abundant study abroad opportunities allow students to practice their language skills and immerse themselves in other cultures.
The faculty of the World Languages and Cultures Department is committed to providing students with language skills and cultural knowledge for professional and academic careers in the 21st century. We foster and strengthen communication among widely diverse constituencies at home and abroad through outreach programs, sustained partnerships and international study. As language-sensitive and language-functional citizens, we foster respect for others.
