Amelia Dalto

potential

In her first year at USI, Amelia Dalto performed with professional actors, choreographed two musicals, understudied the lead role for New Harmony Theatre, and earned points toward membership in Actors Equity Association, the gold standard for professional actors.

USI students can get an early start to working with professional actors and earning Equity points through collaboration between USI Theatre and New Harmony Theatre, USI’s professional Equity stage. Called The Repertory Project, it is an extraordinary opportunity. Elliott Wasserman, chair of the Department of Performing Arts, said, “Students need a practical pathway to the professional stage, and this collaborative effort catapults USI into an elite group of universities nationwide that can offer just that.”

Dalto earned more professional points as a sophomore theatre arts major when she played the role of Hero in Shakespeare’s “Much Ado about Nothing” this fall.

“It’s interesting to have students—especially freshmen and sophomores starting out—working with professional actors,” she said. “It’s thrilling and looks fantastic on a résumé. USI has given me the opportunity to grow and expand my talent. I feel very fortunate.”

Private gifts supporting theatre programs help developing artists get the experience they need to achieve their dreams.
