Graduate Council Minutes

December 6, 2004

PRESENT:     Harrel (Chair), Ehlen, Farmer, Frazer, Hermes, Khayum, Luebben, Niemeier, Price, Raske, Rivers, Rodgers, Schultz, and White.

 

A.     Dr. Harrel called the meeting to order at 10:32AM.

 

B.  Approval of the Minutes       

             

The Council offered no corrections or amendments. The minutes from November 8, 2004 were filed as distributed.

 

C.   Graduate Faculty Applications

 

  1. Dr. Price moved that Dr. Robert Mays be approved for re-admission to full status with the graduate faculty. Motion passed.

 

  1. Dr. Price moved that Dr. Jeff Thomas be approved for re-admission to associate status with the graduate faculty. Motion passed.

 

  1. Ms. Hermes moved that Mr. Ivan Barrick be approved for associate status with the graduate faculty. Motion passed.

 

 D.  Graduate Course Petitions

   

1.       Dr. Price moved that CHEM 541, Inorganic Chemistry, 4 hours, be modified to 3 hours by dropping the lab requirement effective spring 2005 semester. (The CHEM 441 counterpart will remain 4 hours.)  Motion passed.

                   

E.  Old Business

 

            Dr. Harrel presented the Graduate Student Advisory Group (GSAG) report. Discussion ensued.

                      

F.       New Business

 

            Dr. Price reviewed the Graduate Course Repeat Policy. A decision was made to clarify the

             policy by changing the wording contained in the 2003-2005 bulletin (page 217) as follows:

Graduate courses taken at the University may not be repeated replaced for possible grade point average improvement…

 

Announcements

                   

1.       Dr Harrel announced the Graduate Bulletin revisions would be due on December 16, 2004.

2.       Dr. Harrel announced that graduate studies would be requesting spring schedules from the Council in January.
