The University welcomes graduate students from other countries and cultures who bring to the campus direct contact with the rich heritage of their countries. In return the University is eager to share American opportunities and culture.
International students are subject to all requirements for admission to graduate studies. Application for admission should be made at least six months prior to the date of anticipated enrollment. Admission credentials must include:
1.) An application for admission.
You may apply online or print out an application and mail it in with your application fee.
2.) Payment of the application fee.
You may pay online or send your $25 application fee by mail Your application will not be processed until payment is received.
3.) Official academic records.
Submit to the Office of Graduate Studies an official or certified true copy of all grade reports, diplomas, and academic records attesting to the completion of all undergraduate or graduate work. The records should show a complete list of courses taken, grades received and any diplomas or certificates earned. They should also state the number of credits awarded for each course or the number of hours of classroom, lecture, and laboratory for each course, and should include information about the school's grading scale.
We can accept documents in English in cases where the college or university routinely issues academic records in English. Otherwise, you must send course-by-course English translations of all foreign language educational documents as well as the originals. The format of the translation should follow the format of the foreign language original. The accuracy of the translation must be certified either by an appropriate officer at the issuing educational institution; by an appropriate government officer at the Ministry of Education, consulate, or embassy of the country; or by an international credential evaluation service.

NOTE: Transcripts and other educational records are official only if the issuing institution, government officer, or evaluation service sends them directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. Course work from one institution reported as transfer credit on another school's transcript does not constitute an official transcript.
To be eligible for graduate study, you must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
4.) Official verification of English competency.
English competency is established by providing an official (photocopy not acceptable) score report verifying a minimum total score of one of the following:
The TOEFL code for USI is 1335. If you are a foreign-born applicant whose primary spoken language is not English, you must provide official test scores before you can be admitted; these scores must be less than two years old. Official test results should be sent to the Office of Graduate Studies at the time you apply.
5.) Supplemental information form for international students.
This information form includes an International Student Statement of Finance (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) stating amounts and sources of support for the duration of study. An estimate of expenses for the academic year is available.
6.) An international student transfer form (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
This form is required if you are attending another college or university in the United States.

Exchange students participating in an established exchange program between their home institution and the University of Southern Indiana should contact the International Office at their institution to apply for the program. Further information about USI exchange programs is also available from Heidi Gregori-Gahan, director of International Programs and Services at USI, gahan@usi.edu.
Some programs require additional application documents such as reference letters, resume, application essay, etc. Send all such application documents to the Office of Graduate Studies at the address below or gssr@usi.edu. Label all documents with your name, the program to which you are applying, and the semester you expect to attend.
