At the University of Southern Indiana, the Occupational Therapy Program promotes academic and professional excellence by preparing students, distinguished for their strong clinical skills and high levels of professionalism, to become credentialed occupational therapy practitioners at the entry level.

Program Objectives

• Provide advanced study of occupational therapy, preparing graduates for employment in shifting practice arenas of health care, education, industry, and community.
• Prepare students for advanced practice in occupational therapy by blending theory and practice.
• Provide students an education in liberal arts and sciences and expose them to a variety of service models and systems commonly used in current occupational service delivery.
• Provide an understanding to students of the importance of diversity in occupational therapy practice and the ability to articulate adherence to ethical standards, values, and attitudes of occupational therapy practice.
• Provide students an understanding of the value the role of lifelong learning and remaining current in practice.
• Provide evidence-based occupational therapy services that include evaluating, developing, improving, sustaining, and restoring skills in ADL, IADL, work, school, play, leisure, and social participation as well as lifestyle redesign.
• Synthesize knowledge through participation in service activities that increase awareness of civic responsibility.
• Collaborate to conduct and disseminate scholarly work, primarily outcomes research. 

All of these goals are achieved as faculty demonstrate leadership in occupational therapy education, practices, scholarship, and service by sharing their expertise through innovative teaching strategies, presentations, publications, creative works, service provision, collaboration, consultation, and political action to enrich the occupational therapy profession.
