About the Clinical Experience

Students are expected to locate a preceptor to work with during the clinical courses in the MSN program at USI and we will assist the student in setting up contracts and communication between the preceptor and graduate nursing faculty. The Clinical Experience packet will be sent electronically to you upon acceptance to the program, however we have also posted the packet here for your convenience.

Included in this packet are the following forms:

  • Program Information: Documentation regarding the USI Graduate Nursing program accreditation and the names and credentials of the clinical faculty that the student can use when seeking a preceptor.
  • Information about the Clinical Experience: A list of FAQ's regarding the clinical experience.
  • Clinical Roles and Responsibilities: This form provides a listing of the roles and responsibilities of the student, preceptor, and graduate nursing faculty in providing clinicaMeeting with the.
  • Preceptor Checklist: A checklist that you can use to ensure you are prepared for meeting your preceptor.
  • The One Minute Preceptor: Skills for One-on-One Teaching. A tested and valuable approach to being an effective preceptor.
  • Tips for Effective Precepting
  • Preceptor Agreement, Site Survey, and Agency Agreement:
    • These forms must be completed by the student and the preceptor PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE CLINICAL ROTATIONS.
