Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

An admission into the nursing program requires a separate application process from that of applying to the university. The number of students admitted to the nursing program each year is dependent upon learning resources.

Admission to the nursing program is competitive and limited by the availability of instructional recourses and clinical learning sites.

The deadline to apply to the nursing program is AUGUST 1 every fall after completion of the first 35 credit hours in the nursing curriculum.

There are two methods of admission to the program: Early Admission and Standard Admission.

Early Admission

Early admission to the undergraduate nursing program may occur PRIOR to entrance to the University of Southern Indiana for high school students with outstanding high school achievement and high SAT/ACT Scores.

Early admission criteria:

  • A high school GPA of a 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scare
  • A standardized test score which is a combined SAT of 1200 (without writing component) or a ACT score of 26

Students who are granted Early Admission status must maintain a college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and achieve a grade of "C" or better in:

Biology 121 English 201
Biology 122 CMST 101 or 107

If you are having problems submitting your application, please remove any special characters such as ; & /

Also in the areas that request dates, please use numbers instead of terms like "present" or "current" or "from summer 2008" use 5/2008 instead.

As a point of information, students admitted for the spring 2010 nursing courses had an average GPA of 3.56 on a 4.0 scale and a combined SAT score of 1000 (without writing component) or ACT of 21. This historical information does not ensure that similar scores will result in admission to the nursing program.
