Application and Selection Process

The Occupational Therapy Program invites a maximum of 30 qualified students to begin taking the professional undergraduate coursework each Fall Semester.

To apply, a student must:

  • Have a minimum 3.00 grade point average (on a 4.00 point system), calculated on the prerequisite courses.
  • Show completion of a minimum of 40 hours of prerequisite courses (at the time of the application deadline)

The application deadline for admission to the BS/MSOT professional program is typically January 10 for students hoping to be invited to start the professional undergraduate coursework the following Fall Semester. Specific information regarding the selection process for a given year is posted on the Occupational Therapy Program's Web site (http://health.usi.edu/acadprog/ot/default.asp) each November.

A student can be in the process of taking prerequisite courses when application is made. However, an invited student must complete all prerequisite coursework with a grade of C or better by the conclusion of the USI Second Summer Session.

BS/MSOT Occupational Therapy Selection for Fall 2010 Entry

For student wishing to enter the professional program and begin taking 300-level occupational therapy courses in the fall semester of 2010 - the application deadline is January 10, 2010.

Appointments for formal interviews and writing samples will be scheduled for the week of January 18, 2010. Eligible applicants will be contacted by email to establish an appointment date and time for an interview and writing sample.

To be eligible to apply, a student must:

  • Show completion of a minimum of 40 hours of prerequisite courses by January 10, 2010.
  • Submit a completed application for undergraduate admission to USI, (including a $25.00 application fee) if not previously accomplished.
  • Submit transcripts to the Occupational Therapy Program at USI for all previous college academic work performed outside of USI, including course work and grades for the fall 2009 semester.
  • Have a minimum 3.00 grade point average (GPA) (on a 4.00 point system) as of January 10, 2010, calculated on the grades for the OTP prerequisite courses.

Students can be in the process of completing prerequisite courses when they apply. However, all prerequisite coursework must be completed by July 16, 2010.

The Occupational Therapy Program will invite a maximum of 30 qualified students, ranked on the selection process components, to begin taking 300-level occupational therapy courses.

If a conditionally invited student's prerequisite GPA drops prior to beginning the profession OT coursework, the student may lose her/his ranking on the prioritized invitation list and the student's invitation into the BS/MSOT Professional Curriculum may be revoked.

Depending on overall rankings, students who are not initially invited may be placed on an alternate list. Students on the alternate list may be contacted at any time through the first week of 300-level occupational therapy courses.

To apply:

  1. Complete the USI OTP BS/MSOT Application (no letter is required)
  2. Complete, based on your previous coursework, the USI OTP Prerequisite Audit Form. Fill in all appropriate fields.

Upon receipt of your application, the Occupational Therapy Program at USI will send you an email confirming receipt.
