Prezi as a Tool for Teaching Large, Intricate Concepts
Charles Hathaway, Assistant Professor of Nursing, suggests using PREZI as a teaching tool when working with concepts that involve a large scope, but with each part of the overall concept having intricate detail.
This is type of situation is commonly encountered when teaching statistics, finance, biology, anatomy, chemistry, and business systems, and other similar process.
Common to these situations is that students become so focused on the intricacies of one detail that they lose track of how that detail fits into the overall scheme of things.
The unique thing about a Prezi presentation is that the entire presentation is placed on one image,in full detail. The material is presented by zooming, panning, and rotating over the image.
See an example below: http://prezi.com/jipjiqvj6dsc/about-perspective/ Zoom, and pan are almost unlimited - which makes Prezi ideal for teaching the concepts described above.
The instructor chooses the ideal zoom level for working on a detail of overall material presented, zooming in and out as needed so the learner never loses sight of how the detail fits into the overall scheme of what is being presented.
Charles intends to pilot the use of Prezi in his teaching of financial concepts, and intends to share his findings on this page.
Heather Odom says that CNHP has purchased a full Prezi license and is willing to share info about how it is used. You can view some of the presentations that Admissions has built using Prezi at http://health.usi.edu/acadprog/advising/resources.asp
