Historic New Harmony offers an array of educational opportunities and tours for students.

Heritage Artisans Week, which is held the third week of April, is a unique and exciting experience for students which helps them  learn about daily life in New Harmony, circa 1814-1860.

Challenge Programs
Pioneer Challenge Program - designed for third graders. The program culminates with a field trip to New Harmony that allows the students hands-on demonstrations. Demonstrations include open hearth cooking, rope making, candle dripping and more.

All of these demonstrations relate to the classroom curriculum. The curriculum is available with this program and includes lesson plans, bibliography, pretests, exercises, and a list of standards met by this program.

Victorian Challenge Program - designed for fourth graders. The program culminates with a field trip to New Harmony that allows the students hands-on demonstration of Victorian crafts and manners.

All of these demonstrations relate to the classroom curriculum. The curriculum is available with this program and includes lesson plans, bibliography, pretests, exercises, and a list of standards met by this program.

Every year, thousands of students visit New Harmony with their classmates. As part of its mission, Historic New Harmony is dedicated to the education of students of all  ages. Our group programs fulfill not only this mission but meet several Department of Education standards for Indiana (.pdf), Illinois (.pdf) and Kentucky (.pdf).
