Admission

Admission Standards:
Students who have earned a combined score of 1200 or higher on the SAT Math and Critical Reading sections or ACT composite of 27 or higher are automatically accepted into the Honors Program upon application. Other interested students are encouraged to apply. Evaluation of these applicants are made on the basis of cumulative grade point average, class rank, academic background, and extracurricular activities. Students who have completed a minimum of 15 semester hours at USI or elsewhere with a cumulative 3.25 grade-point average may also apply as space permits.
Requirements:
Typically, Honors students enroll in specially designated sections of courses taken either from the University Core Curriculum or from the student's major. Students generally take one or two Honors courses in a given semester as part of their normal progress toward the baccalaureate degree. To graduate as a University Honors Scholar, students must complete their undergraduate work with a minimum cumulative 3.25 grade-point average and complete a minimum of 21 hours of Honors credit with grades of A or B, including Hons 101: Issues for the 21st Century, and an Honors component to their senior synthesis course.
Scholarships :
USI has numerous merit scholarships at the departmental, college, and university level. The Honors Program provides students with assistance in identifying and applying for scholarships and awards.
