Educational Programs

Historic Southern Indiana sponsors workshops and symposia for teachers, history students, heritage tourism professionals, and interested citizens. These include the Indiana's Historic Pathways teacher workshop and the War of 1812 Bicentennial Symposium.

Awards and Fellowships

Community Legacy Award
Historic Southern Indiana recognizes a southern Indiana community for its outstanding achievements in preservation, enhancement, and promotion of its distinctive heritage. In addition, this award seeks to strengthen the quality of life for residents of and visitors to southern Indiana by paying tribute to excellence in standards of community development.

Darrel Bigham Historic Southern Indiana Faculty Engagement Award
The Darrel Bigham Faculty Engagement Fellowship provides one $4,000 salary stipend to support scholarly work in the areas of consulting, research, service learning, or creation of workshops/institutes by USI faculty.

Frank and Judy O'Bannon Heritage Enrichment Award
Indiana's late Governor Frank O'Bannon and his wife Judy embodied the mission and goals of Historic Southern Indiana in their commitment to, and love of, the distinctive heritage of southern Indiana. Their belief in the identification, preservation, and promotion of those things that make communities special is especially evident in their support of programs benefiting youth. In their honor, Historic Southern Indiana will recognize individuals through the Frank and Judy O'Bannon Heritage Enrichment Award who have become an exemplary model of community education in such activities as community heritage, heritage/cultural tourism, historic preservation, and historical interpretation in the HSI region.
