Organization was formed in 1987 to preserve, maintain and find new use for Carnegie Hall.  Carnegie Hall was built in 1907 and was named after Andrew Carnegie who partially funded it. Originally founded in 1854 as Moores Hill College with classes lasting until 1916 when college was relocated to Evansville, IN. From 1918-1978 the building served various duties as a public school building, housing a vocational school, then to a grade and high school, then back to a grade school. Was last used as a school in January 1987. The building is used for yearly alumni dinner, reunions, wedding receptions, and a yearly Thanksgiving dinner. Also, Head-Start has classes during the school year. We house a museum (with College and High School memorabilia) and a library, open to the public.

The Indiana Historical Bureau, an agency of the State of Indiana, publishes Indiana history materials for teachers and students in hard copy and via the Web site, which contains extensive content, including texts and images of original documents from Indiana history. The Bureau administers the state’s Historical Marker Program, which presents many opportunities for educators, and provides signs for historic cemeteries, which highlight the valuable history that cemeteries contain. The bureau produces and supports collaborative programs and publications about American Indians, the Underground Railroad in Indiana, George Rogers Clark, and other educational projects. The Bureau also administers the Governors’ Portraits Collections, which provides a unique documentary approach to state history and contributes to the history of art in the state. Explore the Web site. Much Bureau material has been included in the Indiana Humanities Councils’ Smart Desktop program. The Bureau book shop (catalog is online) has discounts for teachers, librarians, and others.
