The Reitz Home, Evansville's only historic house museum, was built in 1871 by Evansville lumber baron John Augustus Reitz. It is an elegant example of Second Empire architecture which includes a Carriage House and a Victorian garden. The house contains much of the original furniture, as well as hand-painted and hand-molded plastered ceilings. French gilt chandeliers, and intrcately patterned wood parquet floors.
