The Mansion is a Greek Revival structure built by the notes architect Francis Contigan in 1844. It was built for Indiana's greatest banker and financier of the nineteenth century J.F.D. Lanier. Lanier was one of the most important people in the state before 1850 because of his roles in banking and railroad development.
