The building was constructed in 1902 as an Andrew Carnegie library. The library opened in 1904 and remained here until 1969. The Floyd County Museum was organized in 1971 as a not-for-profit organization by community members who were concerned about the recently vacated building. The group decided to open an Art-History Museum, free of charge to the public. The building undrewend a complete renovation in 1998 and is now open as the Carnegie Center for Art and History.
