Intensive English Program
Six levels of Intensive English instruction focus on
building language skills and cultural knowledge. Upon completion of higher
levels, students are directed into classes based on their majors and special
needs, such as English for Academic Purposes with integrated Writing and
Research skills, English for Specific Purposes, ibt TOEFL preparation, English
for Communication, Culture, and Careers, etc. In addition, students at the
higher levels may take content electives in their areas of interest.
Classes are generally small, between 12 and 15 students, depending on the level.
Smaller class sizes allow our students many opportunities to participate in
meaningful class activities and receive individualized attention and feedback on
All levels meet between 20-25 hours each week. After graduating from the
Intensive English Program, most students can be considered ready to enroll in an
academic program at the University.
