A summer program of French language immersion. USI students have attended the summer language program offered at the Chicoutimi campus, located in north central Quebec, since 1993. Although the total immersion program involves either three to five week sessions, the five-week session is recommended. Students attend classes in French language and Quebec culture for a minimum of 20 hours per week. In addition, they are involved in a variety of organized sociocultural activities. Students reside with a host family and sign a contract agreeing to coverse solely in French during their stay in Chicoutimi. Beginner through advanced language students are placed in the appropriate linguistic level through oral and written exams. Credits transfer as 3-7 hours of French independent study
