Wireless Networking Information

Please read the information below about installing and configuring your wireless network card to work on the USI network.

Wireless Internet access is available on the USI Campus. This wireless service is currently available in all of the main buildings on campus as well as the surrounding courtyards. The wireless coverage area has also been extended to the student housing apartments and dorms. Click here to view the USI Wireless Network Coverage Area Map.

All you need to connect to the open portion of the wireless network is a laptop, a wireless network interface card (NIC) and a valid MyUSI account.

A properly configured laptop should be easily setup to access USI wireless.  Simply open a browser and try to surf. Your traffic should be redirected to a registration page that is self-explanatory. Please click here for more information.

If you encounter any problems with the setup of the wireless NIC or connecting to the wireless network, contact the Help Desk.

Encrypted Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to administrative resources from the wireless network is available for USI Faculty and Staff. The VPN service will not only allow you to surf the internet, but will also allow properly configured systems to access Banner, log onto the Novell servers and access personal folders in the users home directory on the USI network.

Click here for more information about installing and using VPN.

If you should have any questions regarding these services, please contact our Help Desk at (812) 465-1080 or email us by clicking Contact us in the top right of this page.
