Dain Garrett Merit Award

- $500 cash prize
- Criteria:
- History student who has attained or has nearly attained junior status.
- Student must have overcome a significant obstacle--physical, financial or academic.
- Students may nominate themselves.
- Application must include a one-page narrative description of the obstacle overcome by the student, and should include the name and mailing address of the student.
- Applications due to History Department Chair be Friday of first week of classes.

History Club Award

- Criteria:
- A student from any major with junior standing may submit a paper from a 300 or 400 level history course taken in the prior calendar year.
- Paper must be a minimum 5-10 pages in length, may be revised before submission.
- Students should submit a "clean copy."
- Papers should be submitted to History Club advisor by the due date.
- Award will be determined by a History Club officers' committee of three

Hitchcock Memorial Award

Criteria:

Graduating senior, major or minor in history, political science, art history who has shown substantial promise in his or her studies.

Minimum GPA of 3.5.

Planned postgraduate study in graduate or professional school.

Has demonstrated potential for a career in public service through involvement in community and/or university affairs while an undergraduate.

Selection: faculty in relevant departments recommends recipients. Committee compose of the LA Dean, chairs of History; Art; and Philosophy, Political Science, and Public Administration determines winner.

William McGucken History Award

- Criteria:
- A student from any major with senior standing may submit a paper from a 300 or 400 level history course taken in the prior calendar year.
- Paper must be a minimum 5-10 pages in length, may be revised before submission.
- Students should submit a “clean copy.”
- Papers should be submitted to department chair by the first Friday of the spring semester.
- Award will be determined by a history department faculty committee of three persons, no more than two of whom will be from the same area.
