THE REPERTORY PROJECTNovember 6-23, 2008, in Mallette Studio Theatre at USI The Repertory Project is an annual effort of New Harmony Theatre and USI Theatre in which a company of professional actors and USI's top theatre students perform two plays of substance and majesty in the classic theatre model of rotating repertory. Much Ado About Nothingby William Shakespeare This comic and poignant meditation on the risks and rewards of romantic love is one of Shakespeare's most beloved plays. At once sunny and soulful, Much Ado About Nothing celebrates the little lies that bring the deeper truth to light. In the merry war of wit between Beatrice and Benedick, Shakespeare found his ideal lovers. Their courtship stands mount to all the ages. Waiting for LeftyBy Clifford Odets Clifford Odents' Waiting for Lefty remains a seminal exponent of American social realism. The play unfolds during a heated labor meeting moving toward strike. Radical and rousing, this Depression-era drama is infused with the energy of social protest and the desperation of the common man struggling to defy the corporate machine. USI THEATRE PRODUCTIONSMaster Harold and the BoysFebruary 19 - March 1, 2009, in Mallette Studio Theatre at USI By Athol Fugard This moving humanist drama is set in South Africa during apartheid. A young Afrikaaner boy must come to terms with his own racial intolerance toward a black man whom he loves as a father. Meet Me in St. LouisApril 16 - 26, 2009, in Mallette Studio Theatre at USI Music and Lyrics by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane This charming exuberant family musical is set in St. Louis just before the 1904 World's Fair. It features classics like "The Trolley Song" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." |
