Associate Professor of Radio & TelevisionJ. Wayne Rinks, is chair of the department of communications. He joined the faculty in 1991 following a professional career as a radio news director, radio/television sales manager, and general manager. He earned the Ph.D. in communications with a broadcasting emphasis from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree in radio/television/film from the University of Memphis. He has served as educational representative to the Indiana Broadcasters Association and was faculty advisor for the campus radio station. In addition to chairing the department of communications his university service includes former chair of the Faculty Senate and member of the University Core Curriculum Council. He is a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Appeal and Hearing Board, chair of the Student Publications Committee, and is the chair of the College of Liberal Arts Curriculum Committee. Rinks has published articles in the Journal of Radio Studies and the Journal of American and Comparative Culture. Rinks’ professional memberships include the Native American Journalist Association, the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Broadcast Education Association.
