Professor of Public Relations

Dr. Gael L. Cooper is a Professor of Public Relations in the USI Department of Communications, and is director of the Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies.

He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and a B.A. in English from Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo.  Cooper worked as a copyeditor at the Louisville, Ky., Courier-Journal and The Louisville Times, and as a reporter at the Quincy Herald-Whig, in Quincy, Ill.  He has taught at Bethany College (W.Va.), Culver-Stockton College, Indiana University and Texas A&M University. Research interests include media history, media ethics, service journalism and scholastic journalism. 

Cooper is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, and he is faculty adviser of USI's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter.  He serves as vice-president of the Cardinal States Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He also is a member of the American Journalism Historians Association.
