For the second consecutive year USI’s presentation team finished third in the 2002 6th District of the American Advertising Federation advertising competition staged in Southfield, Mich. This year’s contest attracted 13 colleges and universities from Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. Michigan State won the competition. Ball State took second, and Northwestern, Indiana University, University of Illinois, and Bradley University were among the schools finishing behind USI.

The competition is open to all colleges and universities in the United States. Competitors are provided the same marketing problem to solve, the same target audience, and the same budget. Teams create a book outlining their marketing research and creative works, and then make a 20-minutes sales presentation of their proposed integrated marketing communications campaign to a panel of real-world advertising/marketing/promotions professionals.

USI’s presenters were members of ADV 440 Advanced Campaigns, a class designed to prepare the University’s entry into the annual AAF competition. Jeffers, former advertising area coordinator for the Communications Department, taught the course this spring.
