Our major texts are Style by Glaser, The Craft of Composition by Keeney, and The Norton Reader. You may wish to get a good research paper handbook, although one is not required. I recommend Bookmarks by Ruszkiewicz and Walker, which is already at our bookstore. You will also need access to the Internet, which is available at several locations on campus.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism is pretty dirty business. Although I assume that all students are submitting original work, I do occasionally check student work at Internet plagiarism sites to which our department subscribes. Our university policy, covered on page 44 of the current bulletin, tells us that the practice is unacceptable and subject to serious penalties. Attendance: A single day of summer school is equivalent to one and a third of a regular semester day. The pace of instruction is faster, and due dates are fairly close together for required work. Understandably, then, it is extremely important that you come to class every day and turn in your assignments on time. I will not accept any late class work. Late major papers will be reduced by one letter grade for each day late.
Labs: We will spend a portion of most class periods in a computer writing lab. You are expected to come prepared to work while you are in the lab. Handling your personal e-mail account, browsing off-topic on the Internet, and excessive "chatting" with class chums wastes valuable composing time. Use your time wisely.
