Larry F. Gries attended Saint Edward's University in Austin, Texas, where he earned a BA. He completed master's work at Notre Dame University. Six hours of credit towards the MA were earned at Schiller College, Paris, France. Also, he has 120 clock hours of advanced academic training in the teaching of writing based on the New Jersey Writing Process. Practical teaching experience involved work on the secondary level in Rhode Island and Texas for twenty years. In Rhode Island his work with students on the yearbook brought awards from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Columbia University Press Association (CUPA). During the thirteen years in Texas, his work with students brought the literary magazine top honors from both NCTE and CUPA. He has also taught on the college/university level a total of fifteen years in Rhode Island, Texas, and Indiana. Gries has worked as the Communications Director for the Arts Council of San Antonio, where he designed and published an international award-winning newsletter. Later, he held the position of Communications Director for the San Antonio Performing Arts, where he designed and published an award winning and internationally recognized annual report. While living in Rhode Island, he was the set designer for the Newport Music Festival for two years, working with seven-time Academy-Award-winning director Roger Englander.
