Instructor of English

A native Hoosier, Leisa Belleau grew up on a farm in Spencer County where she learned the value of work ethic, cooperation, imagination, and the natural world. Her Midwestern roots continue to influence her teaching. In Rhetoric and Composition, her students examine topics such as the impact of geographical location on the individual and volunteerism on the community. Her research and professional development have also focused on these areas since 1996, including presentations at numerous state, regional, and national conferences. She is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities.

In addition to courses in humanities and literature, Ms. Belleau also teaches creative writing and serves as Assistant Editor for the Southern Indiana Review. As a Southern Illinois University graduate student, her work was nominated for the AWP Intro Award for Fiction and she continues to publish fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Annually during Honors Week, she offers the Billy Joe Below Intermediate Creative Writing Award in honor of her late father to an aspiring student writer.

She enjoys spending time with her family, all things creative, the outdoors, and traveling, and shares her Newburgh home with rescued mutt Sally.
