Her dissertation, entitled "A Vanishing Act: Gulag Narratives and Their Afterlife," explores the intersection of memory and forgetting in post-communist Eastern Europe and Russia by looking at the way the image of the communist prison camp appeared in memoirs of the survivors and in post-communist films. Her research and teaching interests are varied, from world literature to film, from Western to Eastern European and Russian contemporary literature and culture. In her free time Oana likes to travel, especially to visit her native country of Romania, and to discover new exciting things with her family, in her new home city and around the world.
