Dr. Kevin Allton is glad to have found a place at USI after teaching composition and developmental reading and writing in various settings and learning institutions throughout the Mid Ohio Valley. Allton received his BA from Missouri State University, and his MA and PhD in Creative Writing: Fiction from the University of Missouri. His shorter fiction has appeared in Shiftless Stone, The Green Hills Literary Lantern and Quarter After Eight. He is currently working on a longer project based on the careers of various adventurers in the New World. Reflecting a life experience that also includes experimental theater, soldiering and Community Action, Allton is interested in exploring partnerships and teaching practices that fuse creative expression with social justice goals—Gandhi’s satyagraha, for instance, or Kurt Lewin’s Action Research or Joseph Beuys’s concept of Social Sculpture—in order to frame strategies for responding to community problems such as addiction, abuse and poverty.
