Dr. Stephen Spencer is Chair of the English Department  and teaches courses in American Literature and International Studies. He has taught and published in the areas of American studies, ethnic literature, and global studies.

In 2004 Dr. Spencer was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in American Studies at Universidad de Complutense in Madrid, Spain. 

He comes to USI from Wilmington College where he served as Professor of English and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Dr. Spencer was born in Ohio but grew up in Guam and Hawaii. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Kelly, and their two sons, reading, and traveling.
