Sukanya Gupta received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Literature from Universityof Calcutta, India and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Jadavpur University, India. She received her Ph.D. in English Literature in August 2011 from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. Her dissertation, entitled "Constructing Hindu Religioscapes: Guruism & Identity in South Asian Diasporic Fiction," focuses on gurus who use religion as a tool to resist dominant power structures, to strengthen/protect themselves in communities that stereotype, to access social/financial mobility and to obtain political power. Sukanya’s research and teaching interests include Post-colonial Literature and Theory; World Literature, specifically South Asian, African, Caribbean and Middle EasternLiteratures; Film; Women’s and Gender studies and Multi-Ethnic American/British Literatures. Sukanya loves to travel and cook. She enjoys good books and great company.
