The Program
The English Department offers a 42-hour Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching, Bachelor of Science in English Teaching, as well as a 27-hour English Teaching Minor.

English Teaching majors at USI continue to excel on licensure exams at high rates.
The Praxis II Exam is the exam that certifies sufficient content to teach for the state of Indiana. The passing score for the Praxis II Exam in English Language, Literature, and Composition is 153. USI’s institutional score on the exam last year was 173, which is tied with Indiana State University and Purdue University West Lafayette. This places USI’s English teaching program in the top 15 scores out of 43 institutions of higher education in Indiana, ahead of seven other state institutions.
All USI students taking the Praxis II in English Language, Literature, and Composition passed the exam.
