Instructor of English

Yu-Li Alice Shen earned her MFA in Playwriting at Virginia Tech and her BA in English/Film Studies at James Madison University.

She is the 2010 recipient of the Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Charles M. Getchell New Play Award.  Her full-length play, Entitled, received a staged reading at SETC’s convention in March, as well as publication in Southern Theatre magazine.  Alice also moderated and presented a panel of monologues at the 2009 Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference.

Prior to teaching at USI, she taught composition and literature at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas.  Look for her fun discussion assignment in the second edition instructor’s manual of ReMix:  Reading + Composing Culture by Catherine G. Latterell.

Alice enjoys crossword puzzles, puns, mondegreens, spoonerisms, and Oxford commas.
