Course Description
CHIN 101 Beginning Chinese I(3) Fundamentals of Chinese: no previous Chinese required. Emphasis on the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the cultural context of the Chinese speaking countries. No Prereq.
CHIN 102 Beginning Chinese II (3) Fundamentals of Chinese; continuation of Chinese 101. Emphasis on the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the cultural context of China. In addition to the regular class meetings, students are required to complete one hour per week in the language lab. Prereq: CHIN 101 or consent of instructor.
CHIN 203 Intermediate Chinese I (3) Continuation of Chinese 102. Emphasis on the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the cultural context of the Chinese speaking countries. In addition to the regular class meetings, students are required to complete one hour per week in the language lab. Prereq: CHIN 102 or consent of instructor.
CHIN 204 Intermediate Chinese II (3) Continuation of Chinese 203. Emphasis on the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the cultural context of the Chinese speaking countries. In addition to the regular class meetings, students are required to complete one hour per week in the language lab. Prereq: CHIN 203 or consent of instructor.
CHIN 499 Individual Study in Chinese (1-3) Research or advanced study of a specific area of Chinese literature, culture, education, or language, culminating in an analytical paper or comprehensive exam. May be take up to 6 credit hours. Prereq: Approval of the department chairperson.
