Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Associate Professor of GermanSilvia Anna Rode received her Ph.D. in Germanic Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. She held teaching assignments at Santa Monica College, the Goethe-Institute in Los Angeles, Vanderbilt University, the University of Regensburg in Germany, and at Central College in Iowa. Since 2007, she is Associate Professor of German and Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Southern Indiana and a board member of the university’s Center for Communal Studies. Her research includes utopian concepts between WWI and WWII, theories on urbanism, and 19th century communal societies. As chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Rode is committed to promote an understanding that language learning is an integral part of a Liberal Arts education and the basic tool to grasp global systems, to understand the dynamics of how things are interrelated and interconnected in the world, and how society can best address these issues. |
