Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Associate Professor of German

Dr. Rode received her Ph.D. in Germanic Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. She held teaching positions at Central College in Pella, Iowa, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, the University of Regensburg in Germany, the Goethe-Institute in Los Angeles, and Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Rode’s research interests include utopian concepts between WWI and WWI, German cultural history and film, and interdisciplinary projects on water and urban planning.

As chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Rode is committed to promote an understanding that language learning is not just an integral part of a Liberal Arts education. It is the basic tool needed to grasp global systems, to understand the dynamics of how things are interrelated and interconnected in the world, and how society can best address these issues.
