Assistant Professor of Spanish

Dr. Rosas Mayén is originally from Mexico, City. She received a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from Purdue University in 2007.  Her interests in linguistics, led her to study French language and civilization at the Université de la Sorbonne in France in 1988, and Sanskrit language and culture at Delhi University in India in 1997.

Dr. Rosas Mayén’s research interests include, Afro-Hispanic linguistics, Creolistics with focus on Spanish-based and French-based creoles, Second Language Acquisition, anthropological linguistics, and the socio-anthropology of food.

Dr. Rosas Mayén has presented at various national and international conferences, and she has recently written a college-level textbook with Manuel Apodaca-Valdez (USI) on advanced Spanish grammar and culture.
