The study of language acquaints students with cultures other than their own, deepens their understanding of their own culture, and prepares them for graduate study and many internationally- based careers. Majors and minors are available in French, German and Spanish, with the additional options of a minor in Classical Studies, a teacher certification, or a concentration in Language and International Trade. Japanese and Latin instruction is offered through the 200 level. Students may qualify for a higher level language course through USI placement examinations.
USI Exchange programs include the University of Querétaro, Mexico, Universities of Heidelberg and Osnabrück in Germany, the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi, University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki, Japan, and membership in ISEP, an International Student Exchange Program with links in 35 countries around the world.
