History Club Purpose:

History Club visit to the Field Museum

The USI History Club is open to any student who is interested in history. Club activities include trips to museums and historic sites, sponsorship of lectures by local and national scholars, films, and fund-raising events, such as a book sale and a food booth at USI’s Spring Fest. History Award:

The History Club sponsors an award each year for the best paper written by a junior in a History class. For details about how to apply, click here.

Past Events:

• A trip to Cincinnati took place on March 19, 2005, to visit the Underground Railroad Museum.

• A roundtable discussion, “What can graduates do with a History Degree?” was held Monday, March 21, 2005.

• The History Club hosted an End of the Year Party on May 7, 2005.

• Trip to Chicago, January 14-15, 2005 to visit the Field Museum of Natural History, and the featured temporary exhibit, “Machu Picchu: Unveiling the Mystery of the Incas.”

• Movie night: viewing of the movie Alexander (December 2004)

• Trip to Nashville, December 4, 2004 to visit Nashville’s Parthenon Project.

• The History club sold “walking tacos” at the Spring Fest (April 2004) in a successful fundraising campaign.

• Dr. Keith Zahniser (University of Southern Indiana) presented "A Conquering Army of Righteousness": How Religious Language Shaped Political Reform in Progressive Era Pittsburgh" to the History Club. (April 2004)

• Club members went to see the film The Alamo (April 2004)

• Dr. Alan Kaiser (Univ. of Evansville) presented "In Search of the Lost City of Indica (Ampurias): A Roman Archaeologist's Adventures in Spain."

• Club Members traveled to St. Louis (January 2004) to visit the St. Louis Cathedral, the St. Louis Art Museum, and the Bicentennial Exhibit of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
