| More facts - please get the facts! Each day nearly 16,000 new AIDS infections occur in the world (UNAIDS). A 1998 study found that 40% of HIV infected people surveyed did not tell their recent partners about their infection. More than 50% did not regularly use condoms. (The Condom Resource Center) It is estimated that ONE out of every 100 men in the U.S. is HIV positive. (Centers for Disease Control - CDC) AIDS is the second leading cause of death of all Americans aged 25 - 44. (CDC) In a national survey, 63% of 14 - 21-year-olds reported engaging in sexual intercourse. Only half of those having sex said they they used condoms consistently. (CDC) In 1987, young women only accounted for 14% of adolescent AIDS cases. That number tripled to 46% by 1996. (CDC) In a 2-year study of heterosexual couples where one of the partners was HIV-infected and the other wasn't, none of the partners who consistently used condoms became infected. (CDC) --understand you have to use them ALWAYS and use the correctly. YOU CAN'T TELL WHO'S GOT THE HIV VIRUS - ANYONE CAN BE INFECTED. Above comments gratefully taken directly from Matthew 25 flyers. They do free HIV testing and counseling - it can be completely confidential!! They're in Henderson, KY - call 270-826-0200 or 1-877-428-1231 I have already lost friends because of HIV and I have several others who are infected. They don't look sick; they aren't all gay (get rid of that stupid idea right now!). This is a human issue! Please, be smart. Yes, they are helped by medications, but they are spending thousands to fight off illness. Send mail to jevey@usi.edu with questions or comments about this web site. Last modified: February 15, 2003
