University of Southern Indiana AmeriCorps Tutors (USI ACT)
Funding from the Corporation for National & Community Service has provided the University of Southern Indiana and Community Partners the opportunity to host an AmeriCorps program in Evansville - AmeriCorps Tutors (USI ACT).

What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a network of programs throughout the U.S. that allows individuals to serve at non-profit organizations in their communities, while being compensated for their time.
The USI ACT members will:
- provide GED tutoring for young adults in Vanderburgh County
- provide health education tutoring, modeling, support to young children in Vanderburgh County
- assist with development of educational based programming
- recruit volunteers for programs
- train volunteers for programs
- engage community for program sustainability
How does the USI ACT work?
AmeriCorps members will be half time (900 hours) per year. Members will complete service from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012.
AmeriCorps members receive $5,326 living allowance.
Upon successful completion of service they will receive $2,775 for their service from the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.
AmeriCorps members will receive training and ongoing supervision from program personnel.
We anticipate that training hours will be approximately 108 hours at USI with ongoing in partner agencies.
Who is eligible and how do I apply?
- U.S. Citizens, or Lawful permanent residents
- 17 years of age
- Applicants do NOT have to be students
